Schools are always busy places, Term 4 particularly so. Sometimes we can look at this as interruption after interruption – excursions, public holidays, carnivals etc. Our focus value for Term 4 is Connection - Building positives relationships and a sense of belonging . This has been a really interesting value to unpack with staff and students. Looking at this value has actually changed the way the school leadership has looked at Term 4. We have shifted our focus and are now embracing the many connection opportunities which Term 4 presents. Connections with experiences through excursions, connections with sport through carnivals, connections with the arts through production, connections with our community through VIP day and assemblies, and the many, many more connection opportunities. The opportunities also allow us to deepen our connection with each other. When I reflect on my schooling (yes I can still remember - it wasn’t that long ago) it is the connection opportunities that were offered through school that I remember. Connection through school productions, camps, sports teams. It is also the connection to adults who I knew really cared. One of the phrases I use when speaking with the young people I work with regularly was one which was used with me. I clearly remember one of my teachers, Mr V, who would say – “you know that I give a stuff about you and I am actually here to help”. The connection that shaped me as a young person, also contributed to shape the caring but fair professional I strive to be today. As the year gets busier in the 2nd half of Term 4, I challenge us all to change the way that we think about the busy season and look at all of the rich connection opportunities we can be involved in.

Thank you to the families that joined us at our assembly yesterday, congratulations to our Aussie of the Month recipients and students who received certificates in the Maths Competition.
Creedence Kinder A - Bracken
Creedence always puts in his best effort at school. He tries really hard at all times, no matter what he is doing! He is a great class helper who works hard to have our outside and inside areas ready for the next school day. He cares for others and will happily help someone who needs support. Although this year hasn’t always been easy for Creedence, he has faced some big challenges and he always works to get through the tough stuff and move on.
Marley Kinder B - Maney
Marley is an enthusiastic confident member of Kinder B. She is a natural leader with charisma and a great sense of humour. Marley always shows a positive attitude towards school and goes through each day with a big smile on her face. Marley is co-operative and includes others when playing and working. Marley demonstrates all our school values and is determined to remind others of them. Marley has thrived in Kinder she thoroughly deserves this award of Aussie of the Month.

He approaches his day with a strong work ethic, setting personal goals and actively seeking opportunities to improve. Known for his positive connections with peers and teachers, Ashton values collaboration and encourages others with his optimistic attitude. He takes responsibility for his actions, completes tasks on time, and can be trusted to lead by example both inside and outside the classroom. His commitment to his education and his community makes him a worthy recipient of the Aussie of the Month award.

Riley is respectful to all, valuing fairness and equality by doing his best to include and support those around him. He always exhibits a positive ‘can do’ attitude and is an excellent role model to others. Congratulations Riley, you are a very deserving recipient of 3/4A’s Aussie of the Month.
Recently all Year 5 classes had an extended day out on our excursion. We ordered fine weather which was delivered! Despite Mr Reeve getting lost shortly after leaving school he eventually made it to our first destination. Unfortunately, the Exeter Highway proved to be a nauseous experience for a few which kept Mr Rabe busy, all were relieved on our arrival at the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre.
The students’ favourite things about our visit to Beaconsfield were:
Toby: I liked all the interactive stuff that helped you know what it felt like in the mine.
Alexis: Beaconsfield was really fun and entertaining. We went gold panning and went inside the old mine elevator.
Kirra: Beaconsfield was very interesting and I was really engaged about all the different tools and machinery that the miners used and how much technology has changed so quickly.
Blake: I like the tunnel where you see what it was like when the miners were trapped.
Eva: Beaconsfield was great, we learnt so much about its interesting heritage. It was such a fun learning experience!
Next the highway straightened out for our journey to the Riverbend Park in Launceston. This was our lunch and break stop.
Finally, our last stop was the most delicious at Van Diemen’s Land Ice Creamery. The most popular ice cream flavour was mint choc crunch with a variety of other delectable choices! After our ice creams were devoured, we made our way back to school some with pockets full of museum gold!
In Year 6 we have been focusing on improving our reading fluency and doing Writer’s Workshop during our English block. We have been doing this by reading a paragraph of a short fictional story out loud to a partner whilst focusing on volume, accuracy, expression, phrasing and pace. Our partner provides feedback for us to continue working on. In Writer’s Workshop, we have been working very hard on various writing pieces. Recently, we have completed tanka and acrostic poems, and open-minded portraits.
Elvie
In 9/10 HASS, students are collectively creating a museum. Students selected an area of interest and are now creating an artefact and an information display. They will make their exhibits interactive and we hope to share our museum with the wider school community later in the term.
Congratulations, Lawson. Lawson recently entered the National History Challenge. He wrote an essay that addressed the theme of ‘Crisis and Change’. Lawson’s essay was well researched and thoughtfully answer the question ‘What was Australia’s response to threats on the home front during WWII?’. He received a well-deserved bronze certificate. Well done, Lawson.
