As we welcome students back for Term 4, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all our students, families, new students and their families, and staff members. This is an exciting time of year, and I want to highlight our school value of connection, which encourages us to foster strong relationships within our school community. During homegroup on Monday I witnessed connection in its purest form. Miss Mott led an activity requiring students to draw their school holidays. Students randomly chose a drawing and had a opportunity to guess who it belonged to. From simple stick drawings of the outdoors, playing sport, concerts, gaming and sleeping it was evident the positive relationships and sense of belonging within the peer group. Connection is vital to be successful in learning, a key teacher practice at PDS is knowing our students this builds connection to learning, peers and the community.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr Matthew Perry for his exemplary leadership during my leave period. His dedication and commitment have been truly invaluable, and thank him for his outstanding contribution to our school. Extending my thanks to Mr Adrian Beard for his outstanding leadership and commitment as our K-6 Assistant Principal supporting our primary students and families. I am returning to work Monday to Thursday, Mr Perry and Mr Beard will continue in their Acting Principal and Acting Assistant Principal positions on a Friday for the next 12 months.
We are thrilled to share some exciting developments regarding our nature play area. Recently, we have expanded this space with new items sourced from ‘down the hill’, providing an enriching environment for our students to explore and engage with nature.
It has been a record week for Gold Cards, which have been presented to many primary students. A Gold Card reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, and I encourage everyone to keep striving for excellence.
I am looking forward to reconnecting with you all during the term.
Yours in partnership
Angela McAuliffe
Kinder A finally got back into nature and had a trip to the beach. We have been inquiring into plants and their parts and we started our morning by finding different plants. We sorted them after we got back and found we had flowers, grasses, sticks, leaves, bark and needles (pine tree). We also had lots of fun chasing the waves and digging holes and collecting cool things!
Prep A have been busy re-vamping our garden this week. We have mulched it and will plant our tomatoes next week. It is fun being outside in the sunshine!
Welcome back to Term 4 in Prep B!
We have been doing a lot of reflecting on the year and how much growth has been made. We have been looking through our work books and noticing how far we have come, particularly in our writing.
We can’t wait to see how far our students come this term!
Thanks to our families for continuing to support our students every day.
Primary PE
In PE students will begin preparations for the Athletics Carnival held later in the term (date TBA). Students will be developing skills associated with both Track and Field events as well as the Novelty events.
Primary Health
In Primary health, Students in Year 1 and 2 have been exploring what the meaning of consent is and why it is important to say ‘Yes’ and to say ‘No’. We read through a book called ‘Yes! No! Maybe?’ and unpacked how we must be respectful in understanding peoples responses.
In Year 3/4 Health this term, Nurse Alex will be leading us through exploring Emotional Literacy. Students have started exploring Body Mapping and understanding which parts of their bodies they sometimes feel emotions.
Year 7 Health
In Year 7 health students are going to begin exploring the effects of Caffeine on the body. This is a follow on from understanding how sugar effects our body from the previous Nutrition unit.
Year 10 Health
In Year 10 Health, students have started the term studying for their HPE exam and revising materials learnt in Year 9 and 10. After exams, students will begin their Drug and Alcohol unit.
Secondary PE
In PE Students are currently developing skills to do with the Athletics Carnival which will be held on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 of November. Students will have the opportunity to refine skills and be provided feedback before the highly anticipated school event.
We are excited about presenting our production ‘Beauty and the Beast – A Bloomin’ Good Tale’ at the Ulverstone theatre in Term 4 2024.
