Our doors are always open, and we encourage families to contact us to discuss progress or problems that may arise for their children at school at any stage across the school year. As part of our Department’s Reporting and Communication Requirements, our Secondary families will have the opportunity to schedule a face-to-face or phone call on Tuesday 6 August. Our secondary staff will also be reaching out to families on this day. Primary families will have a scheduled opportunity later in the term in week 9.
Today our Year 10 students had the opportunity to visit Hellyer College for a ‘Taster Day’. This excursion provided our students with the opportunity to be more informed in relation to what to expect and the variety of options on offer if attending Hellyer in 2025. I encourage families to attend the Hellyer Information Evening next Wednesday 31July at 5.00 pm. This evening has been advertised in recent newsletters and is highly recommended in supporting your children and assist you in gaining an understanding of the College for yourself.
This term/s focus value is responsibility. A poster developed by students below highlights how they believe they can demonstrate being responsible here at PDS. Today our Primary Student Board and School Association Chair, Sheila Steele were presented with a generous donation of native shrubs, hats and gloves by Annette Clarke and Brynn Petterwood on behalf of Devonport and Burnie Toyota. These supplies were provided by Toyota in recognition of National Tree Planting Day and to promote the value of looking after our environment. Very timely if I do say so myself! I look forward to seeing these grow and enhance our natural environment.
Yours in Partnership

Term 3, Week 3 – Secondary Communicating with Families
As per the 2024 Reporting and Communicating Requirements, schools must provide an opportunity for a 2 or 3-way conversation focusing on learning progress, application to learning, wellbeing and/or learning plan goals. For our secondary students, this will occur on the evening of August 6, 3:00 - 7:00pm. Parents/guardians can book a time slot for a face-to-face meeting or a phone call via session keeper. Please note in the comments of your booking if this is a face-to-face or phone meeting. Teaching staff will also be actively connecting with selected student’s families during this time.
Year 9/10 Art students focused on looking at collage art for the start of term 3. They have developed a small artwork each that are now on display in the library.
Beauty and the Beast – a blooming good tale!
We are only four months away from opening night and back – full swing – into rehearsals. Here are a few snaps from this afternoons rehearsal.
We are excited about presenting our production ‘Beauty and the Beast – A Bloomin’ Good Tale’ at the Ulverstone theatre in Term 4 2024.
Our next order for production t-shirts and hoodies for staff and students will be placed when we have recieved at least 30 orders. The shirts will be black and hoodies will be black or blue with the production logo on the front and the option of first name, surname or character name on the back. The cost of the t-shirt is $27. The cost of the hoodies is $60 or $65 with name.
T-shirts and hoodies can be worn to rehearsals, casual clothes days and outside of school.
Band members, backstage crew and ushers are encouraged, where possible, to wear the production t-shirt as part of their outfit for shows (plain black clothing is required if this t-shirt is not purchased).
