Firstly, a heartfelt thank you to all our parents, carers, and community members who took time out of their busy schedules to join us for the Primary Assembly yesterday. We apologise for the lack of seating and appreciate those who were happy to stand. We will certainly address this for next term. Our assemblies are always a great celebration of our students' learning and an opportunity to acknowledge students who are going above and beyond in a range of areas. Yesterday was an extra special assembly as it was the first time our Kinder students have joined us this year. Their respectful listening is something they, and the Kinder team, should be really proud of.
Our focus value this term has been Growth and the insights our students have developed around what Growth means to them has been exciting to hear about. So,what is Growth? – It is about aspiring to learn and improve, even when things get tough.
I have spoken to and heard from a number of students recently around what Growth means to them. Their thoughts are compiled below. I wish I had their collective wisdom when I was in primary school many moons ago!
- Setting Goals
- Keep trying until you succeed; if you fall, always pick yourself up.
- We can all do hard things; we just need to keep trying and not give up.
- Breaking our goals down into smaller steps makes achieving them more manageable.
- Having a positive mindset helps you achieve your goals.
- Inviting others to join in and helping them achieve their goals.
- Feedback is a critical component of learning growth. We all need to listen to, and act upon feedback.
- Listening to feedback can sometimes be hard, and it is OK to ask questions if you don’t know what the feedback means.
- Taking a moment to celebrate our own successes.
- It feels good to see and hear about other students’ successes. It’s cool to celebrate together.
- Persisting when things get hard.
- Trying hard to do my personal best all the time.
- Asking for help when I am unsure.
- Sometimes we don’t manage to achieve our goals, but it doesn’t mean we give up.
- Stay positive, stay focused, and stay strong.
Our focus value for next term will be Responsibility. We look forward to unpacking his further with our students, parents and community members as the term progresses.
Finally, we are extremely proud of a group of Year 9/10 students who have played a large part in supporting the Rookery program over the last three weeks. Meals have been prepared and provided to over 50 families in the local Penguin area. This afternoon students collaborated to create a delicious Potato and Leek soup as well as a choc chip oat slice.
Yours in partnership
Adrian Beard (Primary Assistant Principal)
Congratulation's to Bella form 6A and Max from 1B who received an Aussie of the Month Award at the Primary Assembly.
Grade 3/4 B have had fun in the sensory garden this term weeding and planting peas and beans for a spring crop. Raking leaves and building them up into big piles was fun. We used the leaves to mulch the garden. The class all worked hard and enjoyed a Friday afternoon outdoors.
A reminder to families that mid-year reports will be distributed on Friday 5 July.
The report will show your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale for students in Years 1 to 10 (and for Prep students at the end of the year).
The 9-point scale shows where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
There will be no teacher comments in the report.
This term Communicating with Family Meetings took place for Secondary families in Week 3 and Primary families in Week 7. These meetings were a great opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning.

The Student Board held their term 2 social on Wednesday, 26th June. The theme for the evening was movie/book/TV character. It was the first social since 2017 and the students seemed to have fun! There were some outstanding performances in some of the games that we held and some amazing dancers during the dance off. It was great to see so many of our students enjoying themselves with their friends and dancing up a storm. Till next time…
7 HASS collaborated with our MDT experts to give students some hands on experience carving boats.
