Bullying is something which happens in our society and it is an issue facing each and every school in Australia. Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening. Bullying can happen in person or online.
As a school we are committed to do all we can to reduce bullying in our school and respond effectively when it occurs. Today we went BLUE to “Do it for Dolly” with a focus on being kind to others and creating an environment of care and support for others. It is powerful for us as adults to focus on the positive of kindness. One of the most effective ways we can all work towards ending bullying is to be kind.
Amy “Dolly” Everett should have celebrated her 21st birthday on May 1 this year, but after her life was tragically cut short following relentless bullying. Do it for Dolly Day is a day of grief for Dolly’s parents, Kate and Tick Everett, but it is also a call to action for the rest of the country. The purpose of the day is to promote awareness around bullying and anti-bullying approaches.
The focus for Do it for Dolly this year is on cyber-bullying awareness and support. Cyber-bullying has become a big problem in Australia. Last year there was a 40% increase in the number of cyber-bullying reports made to the eSafety Commissioner. Two thirds of these reports concerned children aged 12-15 years old. The Everett family has worked with Telethon Kids Institute to create a free cyber safety app called Beacon.
A huge thank you to Mrs Popowski and the student board for their organisation of "Do It For Dolly Day".
As a school we also have our Student Wellbeing Hub, which offers online support and guidance for our students and school community.

On Wednesday 1st May Kinder A travelled to Ferndene to do Nature Kinder. Before recess we went on a bushwalk to Brownings Tunnel. We came back starving after our big walk! After recess identified different plants, climbed, jumped, wrapped sticks with wool and found things to draw in our learning notebooks. It was a beautiful day!
In Kinder we love to read stories. The children really enjoy listening to their favourites repeatedly. Last term we learnt about reading choices. You can read with an adult, read to self or read to someone. When children are reading to self, they select books and find a space by themselves to engage with the book. Children have been focusing on looking for letters in their names throughout the text. This term we have been talking about another reading choice, Read to someone. During their read to someone time the children sit side by side, sharing each other’s selected books. The children have enjoyed sharing their stories and hunting for letter in their partner’s name.
In Prep we focus on growth all the time. Sometimes we try to do something and it’s hard, so we have to practise. We also know it takes time to learn to do new things. Here are some photos of things that we have been working on.
A worm farm was donated to the early childhood classes in building 4. After our little worm buddies were delivered, Prep B decided that we needed to find out about how to care for these worms.
First, we shared what we already knew about worms. Grayson said, "The come out of the soil and the like the wet." Koa said, "You can put worm wee on the plants." Harvie shared, "worms go into the soil to keep safe."
Next, we talked about what we needed to do to become Worm Farm Experts! Darcy thought that we may need to ask other people who have worm farms what we need to do or ask Sonya in the library for some books. Davis thought we might have to guess and just try it, like an experiment. Harvey A. said we might need to do some research by looking it up on the computer.
The next day we watched a short video on worms and worm farms and found out some interesting facts! Harvey and Elaiyah learnt that worms don't have eyes but they have light receptors to tell them if they're underground or above ground. They also learnt that worms breathe through their skin! Lorna discovered that you can't put plastic in a worm farm.
Over the term we will continue our inquiry into worms and worm farms and we're excited to take on this new sustainability project.
A big shout out to the Deans family for so generously donating the worm farm to our early childhood classes.
Today we supported the ‘Do it for Dolly Day’. Dolly tragically passed in 2018 after persistent bullying and her parents wanted to keep her memory alive through promoting kindness. We remembered Dolly and raised funds to END BULLYING by having an Out of uniform day wearing BLUE (Dolly’s Favourite colour) for a gold coin donation.
For an additional gold coin, at lunchtime we set up some activities where students can choose one option of having their nails painted blue, blue cotton plaited in their hair, a temporary butterfly tattoo on their arm/wrist or a blue heart painted on their cheek.
Thank you to Mrs Popowksi and the student board for organising such a worthy event.

Dear families,
I have been amazed and grateful that our families have been committed to ensuring children are attending school in uniform this year. I appreciate how kind and considerate people have been in donating, recycling and reselling uniforms within the school community to make this happen and this is something to be proud of.
School Locker were selected by the Education Department to be our new supplier through a tender process and deemed most suitable based on a number of criteria, including cost, sustainability, ethically sourced and supplied uniforms and importantly a quality product. When taking over the previous contract they inherited all stock which was unfortunately depleted in many sizes in some items. School Locker had been upfront from the beginning of their contract regarding the need to recreate our polo and other items with their manufacturer and that this would understandably take some time to update stock as a result.
After meeting with our uniform supplier representative this week, I am able to provide an update on our uniform status.
When contacting School Locker customer service a delivery date of August is supplied. This date is one which factors in possible future manufacturing or freight delays. After meeting with the supplier directly, we are able to confirm that the likely delivery of the re-designed polos is late June.
I can report that some of the sports polos are still available as an alternative. Further to this, we have a limited supply of Navy polos at the office which we can provide if required.
We have been made aware that a small number of other items are also out of stock including some sizes of the soft-shell jacket. Please contact School Locker to confirm availability of items 62157222.
Moving forward, some positives to take away from our meeting include:
- We have brokered discussions regarding the potential to have a retail space within the local community.
- A pop-up shop will be provided at school early Term 3 when all items are available.
- Items purchased will now be available to be collected during school holidays from school.
- Free postage will continue if delivered to school. Our experience has been that they mostly arrive within 2-3 days of purchase; discounts are going to be advertised online to clear some current items including boys’ grey trousers and shorts.
School Locker sell a variety of other items including technology and I was amazed to see that community members have purchased over $10, 000 of product through our school platform.
As a goodwill gesture for the delay with our products, we have been provided with a 40% discount code from their partners New Balance. Please see below to get details on how to access your unique discount code.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for their patience. I’m confident moving forward, that when manufacturing has been completed, we will have a quality uniform that is readily available without any delays in stock.
School Locker want to share with you and your community our great partnership with New Balance.

We are excited about presenting our production ‘Beauty and the Beast – A Bloomin’ Good Tale’ at the Ulverstone theatre in Term 4 2024.
We will be placing our first order for production t-shirts and hoodies for staff and students in the coming weeks. The shirts will be black and hoodies will be black or blue with the production logo on the front and the option of first name, surname or character name on the back. The cost of the t-shirt is $27. The cost of the hoodies is $60 or $65 with name.
T-shirts and hoodies can be worn to rehearsals, casual clothes days and outside of school.
Band members, backstage crew and ushers are encouraged, where possible, to wear the production t-shirt as part of their outfit for shows (plain black clothing is required if this t-shirt is not purchased).
Orders can be made via the Qkr app or forms and money can be returned to the school office by Friday May 24 for the first order. Additional orders will be made during the term. Order forms can be collected from the office.
