Year 1/2B Term 2
In 1/2B as a part of our HASS inquiry, we have been exploring places that are important to us, where they are located, significant features and our connections to them. After reading Alison Lester’s “Imagine” students thought of a place significant to them and wrote down all the things that they imagine about their place. Students then got a real picture of the place they were imagining, built a play version of the place and formed their ideas into the format used by Alison Lester. Recently, we also read “The Problem with Problems” By Rachel Rooney and Zehra Hicks, where problems were described as creatures that come in all shapes and sizes and offered some suggestions for managing problems. Students then created their own problem creatures using paint, paper and markers. We now have a wall of problems (small, medium and large) that are helping us to discuss the size of the problems we face each day and what strategies we can use to help.
