Principal's Report
This term we have been focussing on the value of growth and doing hard things.
Growth is all about getting better and stronger, not just in our bodies, but in our minds and hearts too. Every day, we have the chance to learn new things, try new activities, and become better versions of ourselves. But sometimes, growth means doing things that are hard.
Doing hard things can be challenging, and it might make us feel a little nervous, like having butterflies in our tummies or feeling unsure. But guess what? That's okay! When we try hard things, we learn and grow the most. Think about when you first learned to ride a bike or read a book. It was hard at first, but with practice and determination, you got better and better.
At Penguin District School we do not expect anyone to be perfect, but we do expect that we will try our best and not give up. So, let's embrace our value of growth, show courage and do the hard things. Remember, you have the superpower to grow.
This week Mr Beard and I were lucky enough to attend a workshop with Jim Knightwho is an educational leader facilitating workshops around Australia. He travelled all the way from the United States. As adult learners we both took a lot away from the workshop and reflected on ways we can grow as adult learners."Be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud" by Dr Angelou was a powerful quote that was shared. It reminded me that our growth is not just for ourselves but also for those around us. By supporting and uplifting each other, we create a community where everyone can thrive.
Last week the Central Coast Youth Leadership Council attended their monthly meeting and were greeted by an ex-Ulverstone Secondary College student, Tahanee Bennell. Tahanee shared her learning and sporting journey since completing Year 12 and encouraged students to reflect on their leadership, she acknowledged all students are leaders, not just those with a badge. Mikaelah and Rose shared the HHH strategy with secondary students during Thursday’s assembly. They encouraged students to consider using the HHH strategy with friends and family.
Here - I am here for you, I am listening.
Help – How can I help?
Hug – Simply ask do you need a hug.
Mikaelah and Rose challenged students to think about how they might use the HHH strategy and how they might build on connections with their peers.
