Principal's Report
National Simultaneous Storytime
This week was National Simultaneous Storytime, where an Australian picture book is shared in classrooms all around the country. The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) are in their 22nd year of the annual read-along, with their goal to have 1 million Australian children sharing a story at the same time. This year’s story was ‘Family Tree’ by author and musician Josh Pyke, with illustrations by Ronojoy Ghosh. Whilst we were unable to come together in an assembly, we recorded a video that classes could watch and then unpack the story and what it means for them.
Staff Professional Learning
In living our school value of collaboration, our teaching staff met and work together in teams across each week, with the intent of positively impacting on our teaching practice to raise the outcomes for the students at Penguin District School. This week, our staff were led through a session that focused on the consistency of assessment against the achievement standard for each grade level. The sessions led by our Quality Teaching Coaches, Adrian Beard and Sarah Cappelli had staff reviewing student work samples, common assessment tasks and developing rubrics to take student learning ‘to the next level’.
